Born in 14 May 1985 he is the eldest child of Rupert McClaire, 7th Duke of Wiltshire and Victoria, Duchess of Wiltshire. He became heir apparent to the dukedom in 1991, when his grandfather, the 6th Duke of Wiltshire, died. Edward McClaire is set to inherit Woodenford Castle, which was made famous for being the air shot of Genovia's castle in the Princess's Diary movie franchise.

The Marquess began his schooling at the Sandroyd School, being joined by his sister when he was six years old and she was three. Later he moved to London, to study at Eton College, where he met Prince Harry. They've been best ever since. Following his 18th birthday, he took a gap year to South Africa, where he worked as a volunteer in a orphanage.

In the following year, he started his degree in Law at the University of Cambridge, following in his father's footsteps. He graduated in 2007 and is currently working for the Bank of England as one of its corporate lawyers.
